Therapeutic change happens in the shared space, the making of the art piece, the thoughts and feelings that arise in this process and reflecting on these together. There are no judgments or expectations in this space.
You don't have to be "good" at art to do art therapy, just willing to have a go with art materials and see what happens.
All art forms made in art therapy are welcomed and valued.
How Can Art Therapy Help?
Art therapy makes room for the expression and exploration of all the parts of ourselves, our emotions, feelings, thoughts and memories and how we relate to the world around us. Making art can help us to take time away from worry, it can absorb us, allowing our creative resources to come to the surface. This way of not focusing directly on problems can help us to relax, to engage in conversations about the art work, how this might relate to how we are in the present, and through this build a trusting relationship to feel safe enough to explore the difficulties we encounter in our lives.
Art therapy can help with expressing bottled up feelings, finding a way out of a stuck place or tracking back to difficult or traumatic experiences to explore and find another way of telling our stories and find acceptance of what has been. Art in the therapeutic space has the capacity to contain painful or difficult thoughts and feelings safely. Art therapy can be helpful if you are experiencing any mental health issues, for example: depression, stress and anxiety, bereavement, relationship issues in the family, in friendships, partnerships, and at work.
Individual Cross Profession Supervision offers a space to pause and reflect on how we are in our work. In Supervision we open up to the idea of befriending the uncomfortable without judgement or expectation in a safe and accepting space. Using case discussion, art making or other tools like "small world" can help us to get to the heart of professional or ethical dilemmas. Through this process we can find creative solutions, new perspectives, renewed enthusiasm and direction.
Accessing Any of the services listed begins with an email enquiry followed by a free informal confidential call to have an informal discussion to decide if my services can help.
Going forward we would meet in person or online for a consultation.
INDIVIDUAL ART THERAPY CONSULTATION
In this meeting we can discuss the issues that are causing concern or worry. You are invited to share some information about your life in the present and in the past. This is a space to think about the reasons for referral and art therapy terms and conditions, for example the boundaries of confidentiality, review points and answer any questions you might have, then together agree on a way forward tailored to the individual.
Confidentiality is offered in all services, this means that all that is shared in the session, including art work is not shared with anyone else.
The limits of confidentiality arise when something comes up in session that indicates risk of harm to yourself, or another person. In this case there is a careful discussion around actions which might need to be taken to keep you or the other person safe.
